Cengiz Ibrahim was born in Skopje. He graduated at the Faculty of Music, and holds a master degree in old Turkish musical instruments from the Institute of folkloristics – “Marko Cepenkov”.
He can play almost every eastern instrument, but his main instruments are kanun, ud and saz. He has worked as a musical editor and host of musical shows as a part of the Turkish redaction at the Macedonian Radio and Television.
He is a member of “Musicians without borders” in Netherlands, and has collaborated with musicians and groups such as Vlatko Stefanovski, Mizar, Anastasia and others.
His compositions are a brave, outstandingly rich fusion of renaissance, baroque and contemporary music. Cengiz reincarnates the Rumelian melody and knows how to have a dialogue with musicians on stage, i.e. can lead a musical talk between the cultures of the world.
He has composed music for many theatrical plays, such as: “Zenicki”, “Bahanalii”, “Crn moliv”, “Kjelaviot Mehmet”, “Sheherezad and Shahrijar – prikazni od 1001 Nokj”, the cabaret “Orkestar” (with the Albanian theatre), “Ah ljubov moja” (Teatar Komedija) and the legendary “Solunski Patrdii” (Drama Theatre – Skopje), directed by Kole Angelovski.
He is also the author and plays for the ballet “Vrati”, produced by the Macedonian Opera and Ballet. He has also released musical albums.
The future studies of Cengiz Ibrahim will be focused on the research of the kanun. That way, he will try to promote the musical values of the Turks from Rumelia. Working on theatrical and film music, he infuses the power of the kanun more and more.
With great artistic creation, he successfully makes a synthesis of the traditional and contemporary sound, and at the moment is studying to be a musical therapist.
